ZyMot chamber for sperm preparation - Natural selection of the best sperm

The ZyMot chambers are an alternative to the usual sperm preparation by centrifugation. The preparation mimics the natural path of sperm through the cervical canal and can be used for IUI, IVF and ICSI. The procedure provides a natural and gentle way to select the sperm that have the highest motility and best performance. The preparation is very effective and promises to enrich motile sperm with significantly lower levels of DNA fragmentation in the resulting sample (Source:Broussard et al., Fertility and Sterility, 2019).

DNA fragmentation in sperm is one of the causes of male infertility, leading to repeated miscarriages and associated with poor embryo quality. Fragmentation can complicate pregnancy even when the spermiogram appears normal.

In the ZyMot chamber, the natural ejaculate is placed without exposing it to external influences (washing media, centrifugations). The sperm must swim in this chamber through a special membrane with micropores into a medium optimized for them. This is only possible for well-motivated sperm with a normal morphology. Thus, a concentrate of optimal sperm is obtained which can be used for subsequent egg fertilization (IUI, IVF, ICSI). The routine use of these chambers is not necessary in most cases. However, there are findings and observations where the use of these chambers can provide a significant advantage.
